Doctors distinguish between different types of hair loss. 
The male pattern hair loss is totally different from Alopecia Areata.
Male pattern hair loss (also known as common baldness, male pattern baldness 
or permanent pattern baldness) is the most common one for males. In fact, It is inherited. 
It usually involves baldness on the top of the head and a receding hair line.

On the other hand, Alopecia Areata involves patchy hair loss over the body and the head. 
It can involve one or more patches and even full body baldness in rare cases.
