Object Desktop - Primary components
The primary components of Object Desktop As a suite, Object Desktop is made up of many different components. Each component takes care of a specific part of the OS. The major components include:
Window Blinds – WindowBlinds applies new visual styles to Windows. A visual style can change the title bar, title bar buttons, push buttons, radio buttons, scrollbars, the Start bar, and much more. New controls can be added to the user interface of Windows such as roll-up buttons, always on top buttons, media player controls, and more.
Desktop X – DesktopX allows users to build their own desktops. It does this by giving Windows the capability of having true desktop objects that can be of any size, shape, and function.
Icon Developer – IconDeveloper is a program that lets you easily create Windows icons from other types of files such as bitmaps and .PNG files.
Icon Packager – IconPackager can apply “packages” of icons. A user who wants to change all their icons in one click would simply download a package of icons and apply them.
Skin Studio – SkinStudio allows users to create new visual styles for Windows XP, 98, ME, and 2000 that are applied via WindowBlinds as well as create skins for other programs that are part of the OS such as Windows Media Player.
Keyboard LaunchPad - Keyboard Launchpad allows users to assign hot keys to nearly every action possible on a Windows computer. Launch programs, paste saved clipboards, control individual programs and more.
Theme Manager - Theme Manager ties it together by allowing users to manage, build and apply the themes, icons, skins, and suites that are on their system.
Object Desktop - Other components
Here are some of the other components that make up Object Desktop that are available for download via Stardock Central.
Object Bar – ObjectBar is a program that allows users to create their own right click mouse menus, Start bars, wharfs, docks, etc. It is a powerful tool for designing a more functional way to manage your programs and running tasks.
Window FX - WindowFX is a program that adds special effects to Windows such as shadows, window transitions, animations, desktop icons, and more.
Object Zip - ObjectZIP is a program that extends the Windows shell to support ZIP files. It has more features and functionality than the included shell ZIP program with password protection and a host of other features.
Tab LaunchPad - Tab LaunchPad is a program that allows users to organize their programs by categorizing them how they choose in a small windowed launcher that uses tabs to navigate the different categories.
Object Edit – ObjectEdit is a simple but powerful text editor. It is designed to be substantially more powerful than Notepad but keep the same small size and speed of notepad.
Much More! - There are many other components that are part of Object Desktop that allow you to tweak some aspect of the OS previously thought impossible to do.

Why use Object Desktop?
Now that we’ve established basically what Object Desktop does, the next question is, why would you want to use Object Desktop?
The answer depends on what you use your computer for. Ultimately, Object Desktop gives users the power to transform Windows into
whatever they want. Perhaps they want Windows to function more like an alternative OS. Perhaps they want to brand Windows to match their
company’s general style. Maybe they want to sell a custom made computer that isn’t obviously running Windows.
Perhaps they’re a power user interested in increasing their productivity. Or maybe they just want to make Windows look and feel “Cooler”.

Object Desktop - More reviews
from PCmag review: "...This suite, which includes WindowBlinds along with other Stardock apps, lets you customize the
look of your computer's windows, cursors, toolbars, and icons, but with more control than WindowBlinds. The graphics,
such as the icons you can use in place of the standard Windows desktop icons, are flashy and add a lot of character to
your computer. And we like that you can control effects like shadows and animations. You can, to a limited extent,
also modify how your system functions. For example, you can create your own pop-up menus and define keyboard
shortcuts that enter passwords, link to Web sites, and open frequently accessed files..."
from KickStartNews review:
"...I have thoroughly enjoyed playing with this suite and although I won't use the whole suite in my
day-to-day creative design work, I will continue to use parts of it to enhance my working environment.
For users who dislike the look and feel of Windows but have too much invested in it to switch to a Mac
OS or Linux computer, Object Desktop 2004 is a great option and for those of you who like something
a little more personal. I highly recommend it. One cautionary note: it can be very time consuming and very addictive..."
